All proceeds from the sale of the books in this catalog go toward the salvaging of archaeological sites that are undergoing destruction as the result of development in the American Bottom region of Illinois.

While federally sponsored projects are protected by various types of legislation, much of the region's development is privately financed. Many of the developers have been gracious allowing archaeologists access to their properties for salvage excavations. These excavations are voluntary efforts on the part of both professional and avocational archaeologists. The funds generated by these book sales will help defray the cost of these excavations.
